Christmas 1990 Card

1990. This card was used by my then employer (an ad agency) after quite some internal debate there. I did it for my personal purposes, but the agency having garnered such wonderful response from my earlier two cards (again, both intended for my personal use and "appropriated" for the company use) the creative director decided he'd have some say in how I should do my thing. One of the writers threatened to quit if the agency used this image, as I recall. Others in the agency were fine with it. I eventually respectfully declined to make it "more palatable." I basically think that the agency was so far behind the ball on getting anything done for themselves, that they decided to "go with it" because it was ready and easy to simply take and use it, even though some personnel had such a distaste for it.

Next thing we know, AdWeek has picked it up and devoted a half-page to the card. Agency gets bigtime spotlight. Suddenly the card isn't so bad. People are calling into the agency from all over wanting copies. Only one person (who refused to identify himself) calls in and complains...to the receptionist...and then hangs up.

Locally the card is a sellout, all the hunters think it is the bomb.
