Christmas 1996 Card

1996. Personally, the most disappointing of my cards. I spent over 120 hours working on the 3D model for this. I slaved and toiled endlessly positioning something like 40 separate lights on the tree in the background, working exactingly and painfully to position the balls so they'd reflect the room correctly, making sure that you could just see Santa coming down the chimney into the fire, positioning the light source within the fireplace to properly illuminate the room. I thought it was a technical masterpiece. Only one person, a friend from college who had actually done some 3D modeling herself, understood with any degree of appreciation for the complexity of the image. Invariably, everyone else who got the card looked at it, turned it over, and exclaimed with glee: "I love the frog!" The damned frog logo I spent 45 minutes working on in a second-year college class 16 years earlier...that gets the big reaction. Thus pretty much ended any thoughts I had about further experimentation in 3D.
